Operations & Services: Transportation
-
There will be one student per seat on all school bus routes. Capacity has been determined to comply with social distancing guidelines.
To promote good health and safety practices, students must ride the bus on the day they are assigned ONLY. Students should not attempt to board the bus on a day outside of their designated cohort.

Transportation Considerations
-
Ventilation
While students are on the bus, ventilation will be promoted by opening bus hatches. This allows air to flow in a “u-shaped” fashion supporting the flow of fresh air during the bus ride.
-
Loading / Unloading
- Recommendation: Students will load from the back to the front and unload from the front to the back, with pauses in-between to keep 3 ft apart.
- Reasoning: This keeps students from passing each other and helps maintain social distancing.

-
Disinfecting Protocols
- Recommendation: Transportation will provide each bus with an approved cleaning kit. After every run, drivers will disinfect handrails, bus seats, fronts and backs, and other identified areas. Bus schedules will be adjusted to account for the time to disinfect.
- Reasoning: Cleaning of high-touch bus surfaces between runs is mandated at this time.

-
Confirmed / Suspected Cases
- Recommendation: In the event of a suspected/confirmed positive case, buses will be defogged and cleaned again with approved materials/spray. The bus will also be thoroughly aired out and taken out of service for the rest of the day. Parents will be notified.
- Reasoning: Cleaning and defogging are both necessary to mitigate the effects of potential exposure.

-
Capacity & Masking
- Recommendation: All students PK-12 must wear masks on buses to increase safety and bus capacity.
- Reasoning: Wearing a mask on the bus promotes health and safety for all riders.
The following table illustrates the capacity of our larger buses. It is critical that students only ride the bus on their regularly assigned day. Attempting to ride the bus when not assigned, presents a capacity issue for other riders.
- Recommendation: All students PK-12 must wear masks on buses to increase safety and bus capacity.
-
Additional Considerations
Choice Transportation:
- Transportation will only be available if there is room on the bus.
- As new families move into the CSD feeder area and are assigned transportation, capacity limits may impact a Choice student who may be riding the bus.
Bus Passes:
- Bus passes will no longer be issued by school secretaries or building leaders. In addition, in order to keep bus counts accurate, all students must ride his/her assigned bus to and from school. We will not be able to accommodate bus changes throughout the school year.
- Newly registered students will receive bus information within one week of registering. Bus counts and capacity need to be verified before adding any new students to bus routes.
- Transportation will only be available if there is room on the bus.
