Principal's Message

Greetings Marshall Families! Welcome back to school!

The new 2022 - 2023 school year is approaching fast! I am very excited and eager to work with such a dedicated community that has a commitment to learning as the new principal of Thurgood Marshall Elementary. With a new beginning comes opportunities for students to grow in many areas. From academics to extra-curricular activities, our goal is to support the whole child while building relationships with members of the Marshall School community.

We are very happy to start the year off with our new assistant principal, Dr. Helen Yung who has joined the Marshall Family. Dr. Yung brings valuable experience with her to the role including a passion for supporting students, staff and families. Our daily schedule is packed full of academic activities in all subject areas and we are planning events to provide positive experiences for our Marshall scholars. This will be our second year with our Benchmark ELA Curriculum in addition to Bridges Math. Areas of focus will include increasing academic rigor, providing instructional supports for students to reach their goals while promoting an inclusive climate through building positive relationships.

Marshall is proud to be a Leader in Me school. It is based upon the seven habits of highly effective people. The Leader in Me provides us with the vision and language to lead the school in a way that addresses all areas of development. As each child discovers and develops his/her unique gifts and talents, they are also provided opportunities to lead. As leaders, they become active, engaged partners in their own education and their self-confidence, responsibility, and initiative grows. The children quickly understand the benefits of different gifts and talents; they learn to listen to new ideas, work together to achieve results, and motivate one another to be their best. Having a great partnership between home and school yields many benefits for scholars. Please take the time to sign up as a member of our PTA. We encourage you to join by using the following link that will provide information on how you can become a member. https://marshall.memberhub.com/store

Another way to support your school is through volunteering. Your efforts go a long way to help our school community. Our goal is to do what is in the best interest for the whole child. Parents who wish to volunteer will need to complete a CSD Volunteer Packet. All parents who volunteer in school or attend a field trip need to complete this application. Contact your teacher for volunteer opportunities specific to the classroom.

We are always looking for mentors for our mentoring program and for parents willing to work with students one-on-one or in small groups to tutor and help with individual skills. Feel free to contact the office or send me an email if you are interested.

Please feel free to contact me anytime with questions, concerns, feedback, or simply just to say hi!

I look forward to seeing everyone and having a great year. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding the programs offered here at Marshall.

    Thank you and stay safe!
