Christina Addressing Nationwide Threat to Schools

Important Announcement

We are aware of the nationwide general threat, circulating throughout social media, about school violence tomorrow, December 17, 2021. Delaware State Police, local law enforcement agencies, and the Christina School District take these threats seriously and we are working together to assess the level of the risk. The Delaware State Police has not identified any localized threats to our schools.

At this time, Delaware State Police Intelligence Unit does not possess any intelligence to indicate the existence of a credible threat to any schools in Delaware. Schools in Christina will be conducted as normal tomorrow. We are communicating internally and with State Police officials to heighten awareness at our schools. Delaware State Police will continue to monitor the situation and make appropriate notifications. Should any connection and/or evidence show any reference to Christina, we will communicate this information immediately.

We understand the anxiety and uneasiness these situations can cause with students and parents.  However, we feel strongly that running schools on their normal schedule is an important deterrent to “copycat” behavior and related pranks or hoaxes. Because there is no connection between the threat and Delaware, we feel that our schools can operate on Friday both safely and securely.

This situation serves as a good example of why it is important to avoid sharing unsubstantiated posts online that refer to school safety threats. Even if they are not credible threats, they can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety for our students, families, and staff. We ask our families to monitor their children’s social media activity and speak with them about proper behavior online.

Remember, if you see something, say something. If you have an emergency, notify a school administrator immediately, or please call 911.

Thank you for your support and continued efforts to keep all of our children safe online and at school as we work to ensure a safe, secure, and positive learning environment for our students.
