We are excited to share that Christina School District will offer two-way Spanish Immersion as a part of our Dual Language Immersion Program in Fall 2022. The Spanish Immersion Program will be offered at Oberle Elementary School in Bear, Delaware beginning with kindergarten in the 2022-2023 school year, with a full K-5 Spanish Immersion Program anticipated by Fall 2028.
In a two-way Spanish Immersion model, classrooms are a mix of English-speaking students and Spanish-speaking students. Students learn both languages during the school day together in the classroom with Spanish-speaking and English-speaking instructors. The program is also open to students who speak languages other than English or Spanish.
“We are so excited to provide another unique program for our students and families,'' said Dr. Deirdra Joyner, Deputy Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer, ”Immersion education gives students the opportunity to learn a second language during instruction time with the benefits of gaining high academic growth.”
