Administrative Updates: September 2020

Norman Kennedy
Director of Teaching and Learning ES

Norm has been part of the Christina School District family for more than 22 years.  He has served in many roles, such as KN and 1st grade teacher/special education teacher at Bancroft and Keene Elementary, ELA Instructional Coach, Assistant Principal at Brader Elementary, Principal of Thurgood Marshal Elementary, and Principal of Kirk Middle School.  Norm is an advocate for our district staff, students, and families, and believes that together we can make great things happen!

Dr. Fredrick McDowell
Sr. Director of Teaching and Learning MS

Dr. McDowell is an 18-year educator with extensive experience in school systems across the country. He has led cycles of continuous improvement and served in many roles such as Teacher, Principal, Regional Superintendent, Deputy Chief Academic Officer, and Superintendent. Prior to public education, Dr. McDowell worked in the private sector with an emphasis on business development, client relationship management, and marketing. Dr. McDowell believes that each of these rich experiences has prepared him to address the growing challenges facing Christina School District instructional leaders as they support the individual needs of every student. His experiences have also enabled him to take a calm, yet purposeful approach to overcome adversity and still move forward for the benefit of those we serve.

David Wilkie
Director of Teaching and Learning ES

David Wilkie has been an educator in Christina School District for the past 30 years.  Of those 30 years, 18 years were in the classroom as a teacher of second and third graders, three years were served as Assistant Principal at Smith and Leasure Elementary schools, and nine years as principal of McVey Elementary.   Since 2015, David served as the coordinator of the McVey/ILA (The International Literacy Association) Project to help build students’ literacy skills.  Just recently, David was honored with the very first Corwin Literacy Leader Award in Orlando, Florida.  This award was in recognition of his leadership in providing both students and educators opportunities to build and enhance literacy skills.

- Acting Principals -

Cheri Goetcheus

Effective Wednesday, September 23, 2020, McVey Elementary School will welcome Cheri Goetcheus as its acting Principal.

Cheri has more than 30 years as an educatior with 21 years in the Christina School District. Her experience includes 16 years at the college level (coaching and teaching), 13 years as a Physical Educator in CSD and the past eight years as an Academic Dean at McVey Elementary School.

 

Amy Kohan

Effective Wednesday, September 23, 2020, Kirk Middle School will welcome Amy Kohan as its acting Principal.

Amy has been an educator in the Christina School District for 26 years. Her experience includes Classroom Teacher for 14 years, Mentor Coordinator, Instructional Coach, and she is currently the Assistant Principal at Kirk Middle School.
