Congratulations McVey Elementary School - National ESEA Distinguished School Award

Christina School District is excited to announce that
Joseph M. McVey Elementary School
has been named a National ESEA Distinguished School.

The National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA) is pleased to announce that McVey Elementary School has been named a National ESEA Distinguished School. McVey is one of up to 100 schools throughout the country that is being nationally recognized for exceptional student achievement in 2020. A project of NAESPA, the National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program, publicly recognizes qualifying federally funded schools for the outstanding academic achievements of their students. It highlights the efforts of schools across the country making significant improvements for their students.

“We are so proud of the hard work, dedication and consistent determination on developing a love for reading in their students by the Faculty and Staff of McVey Elementary. They have truly shown that it takes a team of caring people to breed success in students,” said Dr. Dan Shelton, Superintendent of Schools.

The program has been in place since 1996, showcasing the success of hundreds of schools in one of three categories:

  • Category 1: Exceptional student performance and academic growth for two or more consecutive years

  • Category 2: Closing the achievement gap between student groups for two or more consecutive years

  • Category 3: Excellence in serving special populations of students (e.g. homeless, migrant, English learners, etc.)

McVey Elementary School is being recognized nationally as a Category 2 recipient.

Because only two schools per state can be selected as a National ESEA Distinguished School each year, this award is an especially prestigious honor for McVey’s, staff and students.

The National ESEA Conference, which takes place February 8-11, 2021. More information about all National ESEA Distinguished Schools is available on the ESEA Network website: www.ESEAnetwork.org.
