Christina School District Receives Donation of Virtual Learning Equipment

Christina School District receives a donation from community partner, Friends of Christina School District (FOCSD), of 370 headphones with microphones and essential supplies, including 10,000 adult masks and 3,250 child size masks. This gift was made possible through a $5,000 CARES grant and $600 from an anonymous donor received by FOCSD.

“We are extremely pleased that the Friends of Christina were able to secure this grant and provide us with the necessary materials that we need for our students. Students need to be able to work in a quiet space, so being able to provide them with headphones is going to be a great thing for our students as well as our families,” said Dan Shelton, Superintendent of Schools. “The masks will help bolster our inventory; amazingly, they were able to locate child-sized masks as they are so hard to find.”

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, FOCSD has remained committed to providing the necessary supplies to ensure Christina students are ready to learn in this challenging environment.

“Friends of Christina is delighted to be able to rally community resources in support of the students and teachers in our district,” said Mary Schorse.

“Public education is one of the major hallmarks of the American educational system. It cannot exist in a vacuum and needs a strong, visible, and undeterred show of community support,” said Naveed Baqir. “This gift is just that. We want our children, teachers, and staff in Christina School District to know that they are not alone; Christina community stands with them as we navigate our way out of the darkness brought about by the pandemic.”

FOCSD is a group of parents and community members who advocate for excellent district schools. Their goal is to ensure that every child enrolled in the district receives the resources and support that students need to enjoy a high-quality education.

The donated items will help the schools’ teachers and staff with COVID-19 protection while Christina resumed In-Person Learning on Monday, January 11.
