Athletics at Shue-Medill

Shue-Medill offers district-wide organized sports training and competitions. Students must be in good academic standing and have documentation of a completed physical to participate in the sports program. Activities include:
- Fall Sports: Volleyball - Soccer
- Winter Sports: Basketball - Cheerleading
- Spring Sports: Track and Field
Intramural Sports does not have transportation.You must have your own ride and be picked up by 4:10 p.m.

Basketball
Teams play interscholastically within and outside of our district. Teams have up to 15 players that mostly play against paired skill-level athletes from other schools. In addition to learning basketball skills, students enhance their self-esteem and build on their teamwork abilities.Selection Requirements:Students must be academically eligible (2.0 GPA or better.) Players should have some prior skills and be willing to learn to play school-level organized sports. Those trying out for a team should maintain good behavior and citizenship around the building. A completed DIAA physical form is required.Calendar: Games are held in January and February. Practices are scheduled for Monday-Friday from 2:30-4:30 p.m. until further notice. Buses ARE provided for basketball and cheerleading. -
Cheerleading
The cheerleading squad is a group of up to 20 students who cheer for the winter sports teams.Selection Requirements:Students must be academically eligible (2.0 GPA or better.) They must have the ability to learn and performs the cheers and routines. They should be athletic, limber and vocal. A completed DIAA physical form is required.
Calendar: Basketball games are held in January and February. Practices are scheduled for Monday-Thursday (and possibly Friday) from 2:30-4:30 p.m. until further notice. Buses ARE provided for basketball and cheerleading. -
Soccer
The soccer program is an interscholastic competition among middle schools in the Christina School District. In addition to learning soccer skills, students enhance their self-esteem and build on their teamwork abilities.Selection Requirements:
Students must be academically eligible (2.0 GPA or better.) They must be willing to learn and advance their skill level. They must participate in drills and demonstrate an acceptable range of positive skills conducive to team efforts. A completed DIAA physical form is required.
Practices: Monday through Thursday - both boys and girls. 2:15-4:00 pm.Transportation: Transportation is NOT provided home on these days.Calendar: Games are held in September – November. -
Track & Field
The track and field program is an interscholastic competition among middle schools in the Christina School District. Events include; 100m, 100 hurdles, 220, 440 relay, 60 yard dash and shot put. In addition to learning track and field skills, students enhance their self-esteem and build on their teamwork abilities.Selection Requirements:Participants are selected through a competitive process that allows coaches to determine what participants will do at a meet. The final teams are made up of approximately 20 boys and 20 girls. Those selected for the team are required to attend practices and all meets. A completed DIAA physical form is required.Calendar: Tryouts are held in March. Meets are held in April and May.
