Welcome to the Counselor's Corner! I am excited to work with the children, staff and parents of McVey to help promote a positive school experience. There are a variety situations that can impact a child's performance and behavior in school and at home. Some children benefit from support from the school counselor. Counseling services are available in a one to one or group setting. The types of groups are: Divorce/Separation, Grief, Social Skills, Friendship, Self-esteem and Emotion Management (such as anger or anxiety). Individual sessions cover a variety of issues as well. Individual sessions are customized to the particular child and their story.
Students at McVey participate in classroom guidance activities at different times throughout the year. In Guidance class, we work on listening skills, emotion identification and management, and ways to work together in the community. Helping children identify and name their feelings, learn basic strategies to manage difficult feelings and work on empathetic skills by identifying and communicating with others are life-long important skills to learn and use for a healthy, productive future.
