Former Christina School District Superintendent to Be Inducted Into Delaware Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame
Freeman L. Williams, Sr., a former Superintendent of the Christina School District, has been selected as a 2025 Inductee into the Delaware Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame. Dr. Williams earned recognition as a two-time All-State basketball player at Christiana High School and dedicated 40 years to education, which included serving as the superintendent of the Christina School District. “Dr. Freeman L. Williams has left a lasting legacy on the game of basketball in the state of Delaware as a player, coach and educator. His outstanding accomplishments were: a two-time 1970-71 All-Stater who led the Christiana Vikings to the State Championship game, the 1970 Player of the Year, MVP during the Delaware vs. Philadelphia All-Star Game, coached Boys' Basketball at Middletown High School, Flight "B" Coach of 1he Year (1985-86), and a player at the University of Delaware (1971-1973).
His educational background is by far outstanding. While attending the University of Delaware, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education, a Master's Degree in Curriculum Development, and a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership. Having 40 years of educational experience, Dr. Williams, as a Superintendent, was an advocate for starting middle school basketball and other sports programs within the Christina School District, allowing student athletes to participate in all seasonal sports.”
The 26th annual Delaware Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame Banquet will take place on April 19 at 6 PM at The Modern Maturity Center in Dover, DE.
