In 2019, McVey Elementary School proudly received recognition for creating a culture of literacy to increase the love of reading and writing. This endeavor unlocks a student's desire to achieve.  McVey built classroom libraries that represent diverse cultures and student interests. McVey was honored for Closing the Achievement Gap by creating continuous access to books.  From these educational opportunities, a professional development model was created in the field of literacy development, theory and practice.

Delaware Recognition School

The Delaware Recognition School Award recognizes school programs in three areas: Exceptional student performance, closing the achievement gap, and excellence in serving special populations, which includes the School of Continued Excellence award.
