  • Plaque-In loving memory of Robert S. Gallaher Robert S. Gallaher Elementary School (Opened 1959 | Re-openend 1984)

    Robert Sidney Gallaher (1872-1950) was born in 1872 in Cecil County, Maryland. He moved to Newark in 1900.  Mr. Gallaher was an active member of the Newark Board of Education from 1911 to 1950. During that time, he served as President of the Board for ten years.  He was the Newark agent for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad from 1900 to 1942 and remained active in civic and fraternal affairs following his retirement.  Robert Gallaher died in 1950.

    Gallaher Elementary School first opened its doors in September 1959 for grades 1-6 as part of the Newark School District. It was reopened for the 1984/85 school year by the Christina Board of Education due to a rapidly growing population in the southern areas of the district. It currently serves students kindergarten through fifth grade.
