Dear Brader Families,
We hope that you have enjoyed a wonderful summer. We also hope you are feeling relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new year. We are delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. We welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education and we look forward to further developing working relations with you and your child(ren).
All signs point to another engaging and productive year. We are enthusiastic for this school year because we continue to focus our efforts on our school climate through a community lens that emphasizes the process of social and emotional learning (SEL). We believe that we must educate our students’ hearts and inspire their minds.
It is our primary objective this year to create an enriched learning environment that engages every child at Brader. As stated in our mission statement, we are all dedicated to the development of the whole child, including their social and emotional learning, within our school community: The Mission of Brader Elementary School is to help each and every child realize his or her full potential in order to become a responsible and productive citizen of the 21st century who appreciates the multi-cultural society in which they live.
For those of you who may be new to Brader, our mascot is the Brader tiger, so it only seems appropriate to utilize our mascot’s character and strength to keep us focused on our mission and goals. Our focus this school year is to strengthen relationships between individuals as well as social connections within our communities. We have created an environment where we put our students first and we must all work together as a community to ensure that all of our students are successful. Our core expectations of ROAR shall be practiced each and every day. Students will learn to practice their Respect, Outstanding Attitude, Achievement and Responsibility in a variety of social settings on a daily basis. We believe that by building upon a strong sense of community inside and outside of our school your child will learn to reach his or her full learning and social potential.
Brader takes pride in the fact that we are able to provide an inclusive learning environment for all students. We work together to ensure that all of our students have access to core academic subjects based on the Common Core State Standards by way of an integrated model of learning.
We have an excellent teaching staff with a wealth of knowledge and an outstanding support staff working at different capacities to support your child’s learning. Brader has a staff of almost eighty dedicated teachers, paraprofessionals, special services personnel, nurses, custodians, cafeteria personnel, secretaries, and administrators who work with a student population of almost 450 students. This year we welcome several new staff members to the Brader team. Please check out our website for the list of new staff alongside their titles.
The Brader staff works diligently to meet the principles of our mission and to provide the very best education possible for our students. Please feel free to correspond with your child’s teacher and any staff member about the many programs offered throughout the school year.
A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement every year. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially through a careful and considerate structure to ensure equitable class sizes at each grade level. Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities. Please understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred friend or teacher. ALL of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students. Thank you for understanding and allowing your child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and teacher.
Additionally, we invite you to become an active member in our school created Parent-Teacher Team (PTT). The dates and times have been determined on the Brader Parent Calendar which can be located in the blue first day student folders. Please mark your personal calendars. We will hold our annual Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meeting following our initial PTT meeting on Wednesday, September 25th. Your active participation in our PTT is a wonderful way for you to share ideas and to support the mission of our school. Many of our special events are possible when we have full parent and family involvement. The purpose of the PAC meeting will be to review Title I information with our families. The greatest part of our PTT is that we do not require a membership fee to join and 100% of our fundraising funds benefit all of our students in various capacities. So, please sign up.
Another way for parents and families to get involved includes volunteering to help tutor students, chaperoning field trips, becoming a homeroom parent, and offering to share your expertise to the class/school. Please request a parent volunteer packet if you have not already been approved to volunteer. Parents and family members must go through the district’s parent volunteer approval process in order to chaperone a group of students on a field trip or work with a group of students within the building. We encourage every parent, guardian and community partner to complete the paperwork at the beginning of the school year.
Finally, we sincerely believe in a school environment that is collaborative in nature and draws on the strengths of all stakeholders, in striving for improving student outcomes. Working together makes a difference in the lives of all of our students. Please carefully read all of the forms in the blue “First Day Student Folder” and be sure to sign and return all papers to your child’s teacher in a timely manner. All papers requiring parental/guardian signatures should be returned no later than Tuesday, September 11th (ten school days after the student’s start date). These folders contain the most important information that is needed to ensure a successful start to the new school year. These important papers are available to download from the website in case they are lost or misplaced.
We welcome and invite you to join us for another exciting and rewarding school year. It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your principals.
