Leasure Alumna Returns for POW/MIA Chair of Honor Dedication

Leasure Elementary School alumna, Lizzy Phillips, has worked on a Gold Star project for Girl Scouts to get a permanently mounted "Prisoners of War / Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Chair" placed at Leasure. The Rolling Thunder, Inc. POW/MIA Chair of Honor Dedication ceremony was held in the front circle of the school around the flag on Tuesday.

The program included a presentation of colors by the Patriot Guard, chair unveiling and special remarks by guest speaker Major General Michael R. Berry, head of the Delaware National Guard. During his speech, General Berry presented Lizzy with his 2-star coin on behalf of the Delaware National Guard.

More than 82,000 American soldiers are unaccounted for since World War II. As a symbol that they will never be forgotten, the POW/MIA chair will be left empty in the front circle at Leasure Elementary. The unoccupied chair is dedicated to the memory of these brave men and women and to the sacrifices each made while serving our country.
