Welcome to Mrs. Groft's Kindergarten Class Website!
Welcome Students and Families!
I am so excited to meet everyone! We are going to have a "fin-tastic year"! Our theme will be underwater sea creatures-can you tell what story I am reading in the photo?
Families I look forward to being your educational partner this year! This year is so special and we will make it most memorable by working together! I have many fun, hands-on new learning activities planned this year to reach our Common Core Goals! I cannot wait to begin!
Remember, the first 3 weeks of Kindergarten focus on review of letters out of order; numbers out of order and social skills. I rely heavily on guided practice and modeling so that our students will become independent learners who learn how to get along well with each other. This takes time! We will sing, read, play, and use responsive classroom techniques that focus on making each student feel important and respected! (www.responsiveclassrom.org).
Want to know about me? I LOVE Kindergarten students! I LOVE my family: I have been married to Steve for 30 years. I have a daughter Claire (24) and a son Peter (22). Both are wonderful. I also have a sweet Beagle named Indy. With parent permission I hope to bring Indy into visit one day. My hobbies include reading, walking, being out in nature, birdwatching, going to the pool to swim, going to the beach, and watching my "Kinders" learn to read and write and solve their social problems using strategies that we teach in school! This is the BEST career ever!
The GREEN POD is the place to be: My students work with 5th grade reading buddies and second grade reading buddies and are assisted on many projects since they are also in the green pod. Being in another pod builds self-esteem and independence. By October my students walk around the building like they own the place! It is awesome!
Looking forward to a truly FIN tastic year!
