About School Choice

  • School Choice is designed to increase access to educational opportunities for all children in the state. A parent residing within Delaware may enroll his or her child in a public school in any school district, charter school, magnet school or vocational-technical school regardless of the student’s area of residence. Any student not currently registered in a public school in the State of Delaware must be registered in their assigned school before submitting a School Choice standard application form.
  • Enrollment Period

The Delaware open enrollment period for students entering grades 1-12 begins on the first Monday of November and closes on the second Wednesday in January.  For students entering kindergarten, the open enrollment period is open until the first day of school.
  • Transportation

Parents choosing to send their child to a school outside their attendance zone are responsible for transportation to the choice school or a bus stop on that school’s route. Please contact Transportation Services at 302-454-2281 to find the nearest choice bus stop location.

  • Assigned School

A student's street address determines the schools that he or she will attend unless the student has exercised Choice. Find your assigned school.

  • Athletics

The rules of the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) shall be followed with regard to the eligibility of transferring students. For a copy of the DIAA handbook, please visit the DIAA website or call 302-857-3365.
