Christina Board of Education Appoints Dr. Deirdra Joyner as New Superintendent

On Thursday, April 17, the Christina School Board convened for a special meeting to appoint the district’s next superintendent. We are excited to announce that Dr. Deirdra Joyner has been selected as the district’s new superintendent. Since 2020, Dr. Joyner has served with distinction as the district’s Deputy Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer, demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment to our students and community.

With an extensive career spanning roles as a teacher and school leader, Dr. Joyner has consistently championed for school improvement through dynamic leadership, data-driven decision-making, and collaborative problem-solving. Her proven track record of fostering academic excellence, promoting equity, and building strong community partnerships makes her the ideal leader to inspire and empower our students, staff, and families. 

Dr. Joyner earned her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Delaware, and currently serves as the president of DASA (Delaware Association of School Administrators) and DAAS (Delaware Association of Assistant Superintendents). Dr. Joyner is also a member of the Wilmington Learning Collaborative Council and co-Chair for the Redding Consortium Operations Committee.

Next Steps: The Christina board will formally extend an official offer to Dr. Joyner and finalize the terms of her contract. Upon her acceptance and contract finalization, Dr. Joyner will assume the role of Christina’s superintendent on the agreed-upon date.
