The Superintendent Student Advisory Council promotes teamwork and collaboration with our student leaders. The student perspective provides direct insight and input. The collaboration allows students to share, collaborate, and communicate effectively around strategies and solutions to improve school outcomes for all students.

Overview / Purpose
- The Superintendent Student Advisory Council promotes teamwork and collaboration with our student leaders.
- The student perspective provides direct insight and input. The collaboration allows students to share, collaborate, and communicate effectively around strategies and solutions to improve school outcomes for all students.

Membership
- Students in grades 9-12th
- Students selected by school teams based on demonstrated leadership potential/capacity
- Each traditional high school (CHS, GHS, NHS) selected a student representative from each grade level. Students had the option to decline the nomination
- SPA selected two student representatives: one to serve for Newark areas and the other for Wilmington area students
- SPA Virtual Academy selected two student representatives
- Membership is for one year and student representatives currently in grades 9-11 will have the opportunity to continue to serve as a ‘consult’ throughout their years in CSD

Responsibilities
- Attend each session
- Work with administration of your respective school to capture, report, and help to generate solutions to student concerns
- Be present and responsive to the group’s norms:
- Maintain a joyful attitude
- Assume positive intent
- Be present in the present
- Be respectful of divergent ideas
- Use technology appropriately
- Maintain an attitude of curiosity of others’ work and our connections
- Be solutions oriented

Goals / Priorities
During our first meeting, the students identified the priority areas that they want to focus on this year. The big areas of focus for the year are:
- Process to curriculum adoption and exploration on how to make learning more relevant
- School finance and budget work
- Supporting social and emotional needs of students
- How to build my leadership capacity
- Working with school administration on ideas to improve schooling
