Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

  • The federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which was signed into law December 10, 2015, is the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965. ESEA has a long-standing history of strengthening equal opportunity for all students. ESEA was last reauthorized in 2002 through the No Child Left Behind Act.

Delaware's ESSA plan was approved by the U.S. Department of Education in August 2017. This plan outlines the state’s strategies for implementing ESSArequired assessments; accountability; and school, educator, and student supports. ESSA builds upon Delaware's successes and highlights additional enhancements to our educational system that will lead to improved outcomes for all students. ESSA implementation will begin during the 2017-18 school year
